Licensed Clubs & Hospitality Industry

Background

The recent Safety Summit at Bathurst (July 4 & 5 2002) issued a communique dated July 5 2002. Copies of this can be downloaded from the WorkCover NSW site from our links page.

The communique indicated that Licensed Clubs had the highest injury rate with manual handling representing the highest number of claims.

The communique identified a number of issues including

· Mentoring program
· Targeting of inspections
· Third party audits
· Industry targeting
· Targeting of Directors & Boards

The overwhelming conclusion of this document is that Licensed Clubs will be targeted by WorkCover unless they are good performers and have in place an Occupational Health & Safety Management System which is effectively managed.
